hi,
can anyone help with advice re the best wood preservative to re apply on the inside of a stripped out hull, prior to repainting. i have stripped back to bare wood now and removed all original paint which was flaked and tired. the surfaces are completely bone dry. originally when built back in (1963) cuprinol was used in copious quantities. this seems to have done the trick as almost all timbers are in good shape. i wondered if this is still available? i have seen the brand at the local b & q but it is always the fencing stuff in different bright colours. is it available in clear solution? are there any alternatives? i have read the recent post by gordonmc on glycol/borate solution. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif can we buy this already made up from somewhere? all help and advice gratefully received. thanks

I have used Blakes Wood Sealer to very good effect both below the water line and inside the boat. It is quite (reassuringly?) expensive but gives a very hard finish although great care must be taken to seal the can properly after use - I didn't and was confronted with a very hard substance which was absolutely useless. On their technical information sheet Blakes suggest putting two holes in the bottom of the can, decanting the amount required, then sealing them with tape. Don't know if that works but will try it next time I buy a can.

cuprinol is still available, our local yard say that it forces out the moisture. I usually pour half a gallon or so in the bilges at lay up time - seems to work OK>
