Any thoughts on a problem I have with my boom which has a pronounced bend, one dimension.
The boom is spruce or pine set up for roller reefing. Height is greater than width and I suspect it has been left for some time 90 degrees from upright which has allowed to to sag in the middle.
The options are to build a new boom with a length of Douglas or, if I can find it, Sitka and use the old fittings (bronze)
Or, try and straighten it by steaming. Would that work? It would need a helluva steamer.
Or, rip it down the middle, take an inch off the inside faces and laminate in a 2 inch
fillet.
Any other options?
The boom is 18ft long.

Steaming would be no problem. You just need a roll of polythene tubing, seal the ends, pop in a pipe in from a DIY wallpaper steamer. Steam in the bag. You could do it in situ - perhaps just hang a weight in the middle?

If it's still on the boat rotate the boom so the curve is "up", hang your anchor from the middle and pour hot water over it.

When my mast is stored ashore I rotate it every week or so to prevent it taking a set such as you describe.
