Am I right in my understanding that you can't moor in it? Can't remember if this was because the mouth was too shallow or whether it was off limits (but seem to think it is the latter).

Definitely does look beautiful though (as with so much of Turkey).

It is beautiful, but no motorised vessels permitted, including yachts. It is possible, if a little tricky, to anchor with a line ashore near the entrance and then row in.

It's known as The Blue Lagoon and is a truly beautiful place. Although yachts are prohibited from anchoring, if you do wish to visit the lagoon then you can anchor in the entrance and take a line ashore. It gets busy, but still worth a visit. There’s also a long sandy beach which is home to a choice of restaurants.

It's a protected area of outstanding natural beauty, and I think that's why you can't anchor in there.

Visually very impressive but the experience of visiting was decidedly less so. We were met by a launch selling ice cream who took a stern line to the rocks in return for purchasing his costly wares - OK we could have done it ourselves but it was rolly, with a young crew, on charter ...
As you can see in one of the photos there is much mobo activity and altogether a noisy place. A swim ashore to that lovely beach brought home how lucky we are to be sailors - oiled bodies packed closely together with the inevitable 'musac' being blasted out.

OK for some I suppose but we were glad to have ticked it off the list and return to somewhere like Cold Water Bay and the other idyllic anchorages along this coast.

Uludeniz

Translates as the Deaad Sea
We took Fare Well (55ft, drawing 6' 9") into the sea in 1977 and anchored for the night. It was very deep, I recall we anchored in about 60 ft of water. Very peaceful. We were the only boat there.
Depth in the winding entrance channel was 7 feet.
Bear in mind there is about 6 to 9" range of tiude there.

I understood the lagoon was off limits as sewage from boats was killing/had killed it. Oldeniz is horribly crowded with grockles, noisy and the bay is a lousy anchorage. If you want to get a tandem parachute ride off a mountain with a teenage suicide jockey go right ahead but its a poor spot for yachties.

When we were there the Gulets anchored outside as in the picture and the yachts inside in the channel, before the lagoon, on the port side. It is very pretty but full of tourists on the beaches, thus very noisy.
