My wife has just came off the phone to her mother. She told her I was going to Peel trad boat fest and would be away for 3 weeks. "You let him go for 3 weeks! What about the other women at the festival? Do you trust him?" She laughed, what women? It will be all blokes with beards and baggy jumpers.

Do you have a bad track record or does your MIL just not like you?

Your MIL has probably got it right. My experiences of traditional anything festivals is of a good gender mix of people with a common interest, not necessarily shared by their partners who may have declined to accompany the interested party. Rather like an Open University residential course you could have a group of mature, intelligent people with a lot in common interacting in a convivial social environment with an abundance of alcohol and the absence of normal familial restraint. Add to that the warm sunny climate, the extensive coastline, stunning natural landscapes and unspoilt beaches, the Isle of Man is full of contrasts and character.

Issued by the Isle of Man Tourist Board ;)

Mind you, a stick-on beard and baggy jumper would be a good disguise for a sloane ranger looking for a rough passage...

(Must try that as a theme for dreams in my afternoon nap!)

Mike.

Some folks don't need familial restraint to know that they aren't on the pull.
