I would not have thought it would be too difficult to find the woman if she was wearing a lifejacket as said in the report. It is a sunny clear day and the sea is fairly flat, and not particularly cold. I don't know how well dogs can survive in the sea for a long time

It may sound simple but it is not as easy as it may seem
take my word for it having taken part in searches like this quite often

missing person was on deck when collision occurred, likely survival time given current sea temp might be upto 20 hours with lifejacket

Let's wait for some facts to emerge before we start speculating (I know, I know, fat chance). It's a busy stretch of water and vessel movements can be confusing so there's all sorts of scenarios

One thing I shall be doing this very evening is saying stuff the budget constraints and ordering an AIS beacon to fit to the dear lady wife's lifejacket and our PLB will be moved from the grab bag to my lifejacket forthwith

Shoreway, a 98m by 22m dredger.

This is the ais track at about the time of the incident.

That track doesn't look right. How many minutes apart are each of the boat symbols? It looks like hit the yacht and continued on in a straight line

I've grabbed the positions to plot up - immediate point is that I think you're an hour out - the reports state the collision occured around 1:30pm BST - the Marinetraffic positions are UTC and therefore the collision occured on or about the point where the dredger, having followed a straight(ish) course out of Harwich suddendly turns approx 120deg to starboard

More in a bit, NOT out of morbid curiosity but in the hope that understanding what has happened will help me, and others, avoid it happening again

I note also from the AIS that the Walton and Harwich lifeboats have returned to station however the Aldeburgh lifeboat is now off Felixstowe having arrived on scene about an hour ago

All hope is not lost but it really isn't looking too promising :(

it is difficult to interpret from thwt close up of the ships track. It looks as the Shoreway was on passage to the dump ground. It suddenly turned Port (north) then started doing a lot of manourvers. It is diffucult to work out very much as the press release has not mentioned the time of the collision.

The lifeboat has just got back into port. 21:15 ish
