Withernsea life boat station break-in

I know I am an old cynic but,
A number of essential items were stolen, including specialist night-vision binoculars, crew helmet torches, a laptop and a camcorder.
I can't see how any of the above are essential items, helpful perhaps but, never essential unless the YouTube clips are an essential part of saving lives? What planet do the Press Office at the RNLI on?

Oh dear , someone that obviously does not venture out to sea at night then.... night vision equipment , is used after dark ( the clue is in the wording!!) , it is also used to search our long coastline - from just off the beach when there are persons reported missing after dark without the expense of getting SAR out , with regards the digital cam re corder ( helmet cam) that is also used for training and recording of incidents ( in this world of litigation culture , it protects the user) ,the digi cam ( stills) is used for press releases - after all remember .. the RNLI receive no government funding what so ever and is funded by the public , the ones that appreciate our existence and value our contribution to saving lives at sea!!! , the laptop is used as a mobile training apparatus for crew to use in a quiet space for study , training or when planning navigation / search patterns etc as well as logging service records etc.

As a 30 year RNLI crewman ( retired ) then Launch officer , we find your comments unhelpful and downright insulting ... lets just hope you never need rescuing , on a dark stormy night when there is no light , blowing a howler , when a team of strangers will drop everything at a moments notice to help someone they have never met and will probably never hear from again , carried out with the utmost professionalism , with the best equipment available and trained to the best standard of any maritime rescue service that is `envied` throughout the world

so to answer your question ... essential kit? ....i will leave that for others to answer ....RNLI tag line `Train one - save - save` MANY`
