comin off at the weekend will the bloody wind please move around from the south a bit more please?

Seriously - can our on board weather forecaster predict.

I'm in danger of being dragged off to the outlaws for Sunday lunch if I can't ensure that SWMBO, (TOD) will have decent beam reach..

I know what you mean about the wind direction.

It was the same at Easter and we ended up going to Weymouth and Poole.

Would like to get across the Channel but it's looking like light winds and southerly.

Looks like it will be hot though...but there could be a lot of motoring !

Let's pray for a slight wind variation....

Is it worth going towards Brighton ?

Say we don't go across to Cherbourg, is it worth going to Brighton or will it be packed out being Bank Holiday weekend?

Any other places of interest to visit between there and Chichester ?

Yes, motoring, with a bit of sail I hope on Friday to Studland, then leave for Weymouth Sat when the wind goes to S'thly, motor round Old Harry, then cruising chute up for a reach to Weymouth.

Thats the theory!

Re: Is it worth going towards Brighton ?

Littlehampton, Shoreham, Brighton - flat coast, ought interesting to see. I was daft enough to go into Littlehampton in a SE 6 in fog on the way back from Shoreham.... not clever..

tides all wrong for a morning sail and you can bet your bottom dollar it will blow a westerly 7 on Monday to come back!!

Shoreham is a commercial port small marina nought there. Maybe PaulineB can say sommut about brighton, never been there.

My Neptune nav says I have to sail about 168 deg (M) for the Christchurch - Barfleur leg then on to Carentan..I'm off tomorrow about 1300.. Hope the wind stays west of south and we should be OK.. Fetch or beam reach.. But when's the heavy weather going to go through??

Cheers Bob E...

[/ QUOTE ] Most of the Sussex Yacht Club berths in the harbour will be empty, with a rally to the Solent. Plenty of space, but not much locally to enjoy!

Re: Is it worth going towards Brighton ?

Yes, Sure looks that way. Mebbe I'll nip out at around 1300.. Shoot over to Yarmouth or Keyhaven and set off as soon as it moderates... But I have to be at C1 buoy at latest 1200 BST to get into Carentan and it's about 80 miles ( at 5 kts!!)
Remember having breakfast of St.Vaast last scuttle to Cherbourg and never getting into the place at all...Still the Cherbourg thrash was great... Looking fwd to 17/9 already.
So if the blow arrives late I could be well south with a bit of sea room to play with...
Alternatively sit on the mooring Thurs night and go to boring old Solent for the weekend!!! Ho Hum,
Cheers Bob E...

FWIW,there is a 'Boat Show' on at Brighton Marina over the weekend- I have a feeling that it's just the local swindleries and boat sales people; not sure whether it will add something to the atmosphere or give a good excuse to stay away!
Anyhoo, if anybody does make it to my neck of the water over the weekend, I will be around doing day sails and will cheerfully wave at anyone/ share a drink if you get in touch!

Lots of chat about wind for the weekend, for various trips across the puddle.

But has anybody come to the conclusion that we have a high risk of sea fog for the weekend to content with too ? Lets hope not.
