Witches Hats?

In a recent post about stabilisers at rest Gludy mentioned that he had tried witches hats. My understanding is that these are a cone strung over each side with a weight below which should reduce rolling at anchor or while moored. Our boat is a very deep vee and apparently suffers badly from rolling whilst at anchor.

Has anybody any experience of these? do they work and where could I get some?

Paul.

"apparently" suffers badly from rolling whilst at anchor.

Think I'd wait till you have experienced it for yourself. It's not going to make that much difference and who wants to carry all this extra crap about. Much easier to go find a more comfortable anchorage.

Yes , wait and see how bad she is.You could always rig up a strong , weighted bucket to reduce roll . there are a few things on the market if you think you need them.

We suffered from this in both our deep vee planing boats and yes we used withces hats. They made a difference, an improvement yes - but did not totally solve the problem. A bucket cannot possibly do the same job as these - you have say 4 to 6 of them each side. If you do go head and get some get a short length of heavuy chain as the weight at the end - this is the best way to weight them.
