Hi all. stripped out a bit of the boat and in planning for it all to go back together i need to be ready for the starter wiring for the engines.
At the minute it has this orignal set up.

is thuis the best configuration to go with nowadays, i say that as this is a 50 year old boat. I will be for sake of not to much fitting new cables, as where there fitted ill not be faffing in future replacing them.

I see its NEG switched ? , good i think for petrol engines ?

Or is there a better way to wire the engines up with isolation switch.

Cheers

Faffer :)

Your diagram cannot be correct, you cannot have positives and negatives going to the same (single pole) switch.

I would bin the switch and buy 3 single switches, one switches the engine battery on, one switches domestic circuits and the 3rd link the other two switches for emergency use.

i am well wrong there then, as i was sure cable from Number 2 went to the starter motor on each engine.
And come to think, it would be better anyway to get new switch while at it.

It is possible the cables go to the starter motors, if they are isolated negatives, but not if they go to the positives. Still, much better to fit new switches and keep the engine and domestic batteries separate. You'll also need to consider how the charging works.

Yes that is what I meant sorry. The 2 connection has both cables going to an engine starter connection +.
I have decided though to do it all. These are that old who know how long they will.last. just been on 12v Planet sorting a shopping list.
Thanks for the help ;)
