Need some help from the techies!
Just bought two off aqua signal all round red hoisting (the NUC lights required for coding)
They are rated at 25w (12v).
Question - what size/type of cable do I need, assuming the length needs to be about 15m.

Regards,

Michael.

I don't know how high you need to hoist them but do remember that the 'total length' of cable run is 'there and back'; in other words, a total cable run of 15 metres means that your lights would only be 7,5 metres away from the battery source. Thought I'd point it out because it seems to be quite a short distance if it is for a Bavaria 44.

I would suggest that you concentrate on the robustness of the wire given that the flexing when hoisting and stowing away will cause mechanical failure rapidly. So yes use a wire gauge heavier than required for volt drop and current carrying capacity then look for a cable with max number of fine wires.
Perhaps if you can find something a curly cord style would be ideal.
Cables made for telephone handsets are mde for a lot of abuse. The cable has fine wires and string woven into the cable to make it fatigue resistant and flexible. Unfortunately this style of cable will probably be too small for the current carrying.
Make sure the cable ends are anchored.
Perhaps the whole exercise is to get approval and you won't actually use them. good luck olewill

Many thanks to you all for your help - I am sure I can now manage to purchase suitable wire and connect it - point taken about the length, perhaps I will increase it a bit.
Incidentally, a set of NUC lights was quoted at £297 (after discount!)

Regds,

Michael.
