I recently had to replace my alternator but accidentally bought a insulated return alternator.. my old one was earthed through the engine block.

What is the best way to earth this alternator? And what would be the be right cable size?

It is a pretty standard twin battery setup. The engine is a Bukh DV24. The alternator is: WA1656 Alternator 12v 873770 70A Volvo Penta Marine 873633.

Any advice much appreciated.

Add a cable from the alternator's negative terminal to the engine block. Use the same size cable as is fitted for the positive lead.

Use the same or thicker gauge (or thickness) wire that goes from the B+ of the alternator. As above, strap the negative of the alternator to a convenient location on the engine. Ensure the surface is clean as well as paint and rust free.
