I'm marinising a ford 1.8 XLD engine and I'm a bit stuck with the wiring on the injection pump. There are three wires coming out of it on a connector and as far as I can see from the schematics they are for the fuel shut off solenoid, cold start solenoid and the cold start idle speed solenoid. Does anyone have any idea what needs to be switched on when etc, I'm presuming the fuel shut off needs to be on untill the engine is shut off but I'm not sure about the other two.

Help would be much apreciated!

If you don't get an answer here I would try one of the Ford owners forums. Do a search for them, make sure you mention "forum". You will definately be correct about the fuel cut-off solenoid.

I would think the cold start solenoid will probably be live at the same time the glow plugs are and the cold start idle speed solenoid will be on until normal engine operation temperatue is reached, and will thus be somehow connected to a temperature sensor.

The Ford 1.8 XLD is the base unit for the Mermaid Meteor II. You might get some help by consulting their wiring diagrams

Are you sure about your identification of the wires?

The last time I fitted a Ford 1.8 D with three wires from the injection pump they were for the engine anti theft security code wiring.

This was on a new 'endura' engine.

The solution was to break off all the epoxy around the three wires and remove the electronic parts.

This left me with a single wire to the fuel cut off solenoid.

The wiring then became quite easy.

It may be that ford injection pumps have advanced since I fitted that one.

The best place for advice is to contact a deisel injection pump repair/refurbishment specialist. They will have first hand knowledge of all the different generations of Ford injection pumps.
