Hi,

This Winter I plan to install a Lofrans windlass with an eBay Wireless remote. I noticed that a few of you guys have used eBay remotes in the past and results sounded good so thats my intended route. I'm a little confused with the switch wiring though.
I've got 4 wires to deal with
Black - Negative
Red - Positive
Yellow - Control Wire
White - Control Wire

This is all fine and straightforward and I'll need to make sure the Control wires are around the right way for the remote switch. Connections B2 and B3 on the solenoid.
I'm going to run a fused and switched positive, and a negative wire from distribution at the Nav table.
Now the confusing bit for me. How will the circuit be configured at the solenoid?
The Lofrans circuit diagram is here http://www.seatechmarineproducts.com/download/3_Terminal_Wiring_Diagram.jpg

Can I split the negative supply and connect it to Solenoid connection C and to the remote switch Negative connection, which is installed in the same junction box
Hope this makes sense.
Any advice much appreciated.

Si

I fitted the wireless remote box at the solenoid, I connected + via an inline fuse to the + on Solenoid. I then picked up - from c connection on the solenoid. Connected Yellow and whites to B2 and B3. Used trial and error to get them the right way round.

Different question I'm afraid. I have a Lofrans windlass with a Vega remote controller. Is it possible to convert to wireless?

Should be. Just piggy back a maplins garage door controller in parallel onto the solinoids. Might need a lecky type chap to lend a hand if you're not that way inclined. :) Cheap and very handy.

This excellent RC performs all the functions of the more expensive marine ones.
I have one fitted 2 years now and glad to help anyone interested with further details. I tried to get a direct link from ebay but hope this listing No.works. Chris.

David,

Thats the bit I don't understand. I thought the solenoid just switched the Positive.
Hence there is a seperate Negative supply, shown from the Battery on 'C'. The only place I could possibly get it locally would be from the cabin lights, but that doesn't feel like good idea. I'm looking for best practice really.

Confused..

My maplins unit has 5 wires. power in plus / minus , then a plus in which it switches out to one of the last 2 wires to switch the solinoid.

The Lofrans reversing relay has a (small wire not battery cable) negative feed as well or it wouldn't work. As it's usually situated near to the windlass, it's normal to take this neg feed from the windlass neg battery cable stud. So when you come to connect the wireless unit, place it next to the Lofrans relay and you have all the connections you need without running any new wires.

See wiring diagram - http://www.imtra.com/downloadTypes/Kobra_Owners_Manual.pdf

Solenoid needs a negative for it to work hence it is powered via one of the Bs with + on it and - on C. Yes it does only switch the + but thats the high current cable needed for the windlass. The Solenoid only needs a low current -ve

I cannot remember where the -ve comes from on my solenoid I am down on the boat today and will have a look for you.

Thanks guys.

Graham, yep that should work. I was trying to have the least number of cables in the anchor locker, just high current + and -, so didn't even think about taking the neg feed from there.

David, that would be great.

Many thanks.

Could there be an interaction of 2 boats by 1 remote at close quarters ?

Ok, settled on sourcing the supply from the neg feed for the Windlass. Also means that the remote will be fully isolated when the main windlass breaker is open.

Thanks all.

Wiring Lofrans Vega remote control for anchor

I have a Lofrans Vega remote control where the contact corroded and am trying to figure out the wiring.
As can be seen (I hope) by the picture, I have a black, blue, yellow/green and brown that should connect to +, - and what Lofrans calls B2 and B3.
It is on my 2000 Jeanneau Sun Odessey 40.

I tried contacting Lofrans, but no reply... I saw from other posts, that they may be out of business... Anyone know of a better contact?
Any ideas? I

P.S. I am replying to an old post, because I can't figure out how to start a new thread :)
