Hi
Anybody know of any wireless IP cameras that will work with my Raymarine E125 MFD, I cant help but think that the Raymarine ones are overpriced. Even if domestic ones only last a couple of years it is going to be an awful lot cheaper.
I am not particularly techie minded but surely there is an cheaper alternative.
Thanks
Dave

If possible, stay away from IP cameras - there is a delay (about half a second) which is quite off putting if using to docking etc.

Nearly 10 years, I asked the same question.
I installed wired standard RGB dome cameras as docking cameras.
These were cheap domestic type external dome cameras from here - https://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/
One failed in the first year - replaced under warranty - but they have not failed since.
I power them from a voltage stabiliser so that may be the reason that they work reliably.

IMO, it is well worth the time running cables in.

As I said I am not very techie minded but as I understand it the MFD has its own network and I need a camera to add to that network and then view it on the MFD . Is the raymarine camera special to the MFD software or will any camera work with it.

The plotter will either have video inputs, or a cable will have come with it that plugs in that gives you video inputs . So the camera is not connecting the to "network" it is just providing an input of video.

Any camera will work - however if it is a reversing camera do remember to buy one with a reversed image or left will be right and right will be left on the screen

Whilst it may vary the video signal is not generally sent over the network. In practice that means that without a video splitter you will only see the video on one plotter. Check the documentation for your plotter - it may well send over the network but my new garmin 2014 kit didn't, and nor does my current ( Ic guess 2008 ) raymarine kit either.

There are two types of video connector and of course the camera you get will have the wrong one. If so just cut it off or buy an adapter. Soldered joints are more reliable in a boat in any case! Cameras just send video with 2 wires.

The mfd can have up to 4 wireless cameras connected to it or one on its video input according to its blurb. The Raymarine cameras are wireless with there own IP address

Sadly I burned many hours trying to do just this last year.
Although Raymarine say any IP cam that is ONVIF compatible will work, the problem is trying to find one that does not require a username and password login every time you switch it on.
As far as I could see the Raymarine lighthouse software doesn't allow you to enter usernames and passwords to access IP's.

So I resorted to the Gamut Tx Rx units as per JRudge's post and an analogue connection. Excellent quality.
