Winterising checklist

I have learned to add all brass hinges to the winterising list!
De-salt with water with a touch of detergent, then wipe with WD40.

Plumbing section is a little incomplete.

Before winterizing, pump out any holding tank and THOROUGHLY flush it out with plently of clean water to remove sludge accumulation. If it's left to sit in the tank over the winter, it can turn to "concrete" that nothing will dissolve--at least nothing that won't damage the tank.

Many people think that all you have to do to winterize the toilet and sanitation system is pour antifreeze down the toilet and flush it through. But that only protects only the discharge piping and tank...it will not protect the intake nor the bowl. To do it properly requires disconnecting the inlet line from the thru-hull (Do close the seacock first if the boat is in the water!) and sticking it into the jug of antifreeze...then pump it through the toilet into the rest of the system. Do not reconnect the head intake line until spring. If the boat is out of the water, leave the seacock open till spring.
