Wintering central Greece

We had planned to winter in the Levkas area for coming winter, as live aboard. However, learn that The Black Sea Rally is up for June 2006. Going all the way from Levkas in the spring, is on the upper side of our preference.

Any suggestions on alternative ports/marinas, with water and electricty, and reasonable connections to fly UK/Norway for visits?

But our idea was a place closer to Istanbul, but still in Greece.

You could try Lavrion whic is near the new Athens airport. Or investigate the Volos area or Poros. Alternatively consider one of the Turkish marinas.
However Levkas to Istanbul should be possible in a week of mainly day sailing.

There are three boatyards on the island of Aegina, 40mins by hydrofoil from Piraeus. Airport buses run from Piraeus to Athens airport every 20 mins and take approx 1 hr.
Can recommend Jordan Kanonis if you don't draw more than about 2m. Bigger boats / motor yacht are better in Planaco.
If you want to winter afloat, try Porto Kheli. Longer ferry trip but v.well protected.
Lovely new boatyard at Kiladha on the peninsula round the corner from Porto Kheli. Very nice.

... and I forgot Kos of course, which is much nearer Turkey and reputedly (I haven't tried it) one of the best marinas in Greece. Lots of liveaboards winter there.

If access by air is important....

Olympic Yacht Yard (Olympic Marina) is very handy for E. Venezelos Airport where twice daily cheap EasyJet flights from Luton & Gatwick continue throughout the year. It is also usefully upwind in the Meltemi over Poros, Porto Heli, Ermione and Aegina and (IMO) an ideal setting off point for Istanbul.

We are in Corfu and during the winter have to use Olympic Airlines via Athens. Levkas is virtually cut off during the winter except for shuttles into Preveza that don't tie in very well with flights to and from the UK.

When in Athens we were berthed at Kalamaki Marina but it's security is practically non-existant. It's also much further from the airport than Olympic YY which is near Lavrion.
