When visiting Cherbourg mid june this year, they are offering Winter storage for an 8,5m yacht. Lift out and relaunch for 3250 french francs.

Has anyone any experience of their service and whether it is a good idea ?

Storage ashore in the West country has become sky high in price as councils sell off property for development, leaving space at a premuim and prices the same.

Sounds like a fantastic deal - Mind you don't get killed in the rush to get there! Have you asked your insurer what they think about this?? I think that winter storage in yards is a rip off - I use a river bank for my twin keeler - not quite the same but it costs naddazero!!

A fellow club member at Lyme Regis did it last year, by accident as he experienced engine trouble. However, he is planning to overwinter there again this year as he found things so pleasent. This is despite our club having its own winter storage at £1.50/mtr + £40 lift in/out.

I was based in Bas Sablons (St Malo) for several years. I enjoyed excellent, professional service at a very reasonable cost. It hurt to return to the Solent - so I soon departed!
No worries - go for it.
