I’m probably going to take my First 27 out of the water in November and put her back next March.

Can anyone recommend good winter storage in the Chichester area, how much should it cost and do I need to book soon ?

Thanks

Or JK Marine at Dell Quay. Prices are reasonable there and it's easy to drive to. 01243 785954

Hi Roger,

Enjoy the fun last Saturday p.m.? Best entertainment I've had in years. (We were just behind you on the Quay).

I used Hayling Yacht Company last year - they are nice people and there charges seem similar to everyone else's (cost us about £800 for 32 feet)

Small world eh ? - what boat were you in ?

We got to Poole quite early and then when the bedlam kicked off we went and hid in the pub as we couldn't bear to look !!

I was glad to see the harbour master finally got things sorted!

I'm surprised how much winter storage is - about the same as on the water on a swing mooring. There was me thinking most of my expenses were out of the way ! My inlaws have property in Wittering so it might even be worth the transport costs to park her there (if they'll agree !!)

Cheerio

We were in "Bedouin of Cove" - a Centurion 32 that was third out in the raft behind First Magnitude. (In fact we almost rafted up next to you - but chose the Fulmar behind instead). Like you we were in and secure in good time - but I was a bit horrified by the antics of some of the people coming in later.

Eventually we disappeared to the pub too, and order had been returned by the time we got back.

Wintering ashore is expensive - part of that being the cost of craning the boat in and out. We haven't decided whether we will take the boat out this year or not. We need some time out of the water for scrubbing, anti-fouling and servicing sea-cocks.

I must say I won't hurry back to Poole. Last time I went was 3 years ago - we were met at the Town Quay by harbour staff in a Dory who directed us where to park, it was busy, but all was ordered and good tempered. (I did notice last w/e tempers were wearing thin!). The Quay was full of character and bustling with activity.

But now - the ugly marina has chopped off half the quay - you can't get it in when it's busy and are forced to when it's not at exhorbitant prices (I hear). The quay has lost all it's character and I was really disappointed. The developments going up will no doubt be a real eye-sore and I think the place will be ruined.

Anyway, what are the benefits of leaving the boat in the water ? I scrubbed the bottom last week while dried out in Lyme Regis so it's tempting to leave her in (although I'll need to anti foul of course). Mind you, there are so many jobs that need doing that she needs to come out - better start saving !

Where's your's berth BTW ?
