I know that it is a funny time to ask ... but have you any recommendations for where to store a sailing boat (6mtr) on its own trailer, over winter in Chichester Harbour?

For the last two years, I have taken the boat home (inland 60 miles), but it would be good to leave it near the harbour (if secure). Maybe even better if the mast was left up.

Any recommendations, or places to avoid?

regards

Keith

I used to keep my old trailer sailer at Northney Marina, they have a locked trailer car park so security is pretty good (you have to sign for the key) and its possible to get the trailer from the slipway to the parking with mast up, no overhead obstructions. A few years ago it cost me something like £800/year it might have gone up a bit since then though.

Also pretty quick to get to from the A3 if you are doing any work on the boat.

Only downside was that the slipway is rather steep (also a good thing at the same time as it makes launching easier), but you would be fine with a four wheel drive to get the boat up the ramp, or I think the marina will do it for a fee with the tractor (or at least they used to).

Thanks for the replies, and a PM which was most helpful. I am intrigued as to where most of the moored boats go in the winter - there must be 1000's stored somewhere!

I am asking now, mainly as the journey is fresh in my mind, and that in Sept/Oct, everywhere will be booked.

there are one or two places that offer storage away from the water, but still local....(maybe I saw adverts in the harbour guide?) they should be cheaper; if I find the ad's I'll let you know.

Not in Chichester Harbour, but close by at the top of Portsmouth Harbour is Wicormarine - friendly boat yard, with a skilled workforce to do the jobs you can't/don't want to do yourself. Easy access from M27, small on site chandlery, with Port Solent and recently opened Lower Quay Chandlery in Fareham close by for a wider range. I've had my boat there for the last two winters (and on their moorings for two summers, but I don't think its essential) with no complaints.
They have a website http://www.wicormarine.co.uk

Hope this helps,

Mark
