Winter moorings COSTA BRAVA

Hi Guys
I am looking for a good marina around Barcelona or further along the coast to winter at

I have looked at the Barcelona marinas but they say they have no space. Has anyone got any information regarding decent marinas to winter in along that coast I have applied to Port Roses.

Any information would be a great hepl .

Kind regards Nick

Valencia

We spent a very happpy four months in the Juan Carlos Marina in Valencia, not too many liveaboards there in 2009/10 but maybe more now. Great access to a very pretty city with loads going on.

Assuming you're living on board . . .

A lot depends on whether you want to be close to an interesting city, or whether you're happy to be more isolated but with a good local live aboard community - Cartagena vs Almerimar. Barcelona and Valencia are more tourist oriented than Cartagena, so a little more expensive.

Winter weather factor is better further south, hence "Costa del Sol" and the votes for Almerimar - some distance from Almeria.

Nick

You may remember me from our dealings in Knutsford several years ago.

We sailed our Oceanis 40 from Pwllheli, N.Wales to the med in 2010 and have tried several marinas in Spain and Mallorca but moved to Sant Carles in May this year.

I am more than happy with the marina and there is a really friendly crowd there.

The Balearics are only around 100nm away, in fact we had a cruise to Ibiza/Formentera in July and it was excellent.

Hope all works out, if you need any further information about Sant Carles please get in touch.

Cheers

Winter Berthing

Thank you everyone for your kind help and information It looks like Santa Carles for us so hope to see you all over the winter sometime please make your selves known
Kind regards Nick

Another vote for sant Carles.

We know several boats heading for Almerimar this coming winter and if we had been staying in the region, would probably have done the same ourselves. However, that was before we came into Sant Carles for a haul-out at the end of July.

Whilst i never anticipated saying nice things about an MDL marina (we didn't know they owned it until after we'd arrived) I have been very impressed; the facilities are excellent, the staff are very friendly & extremely helpful (Thomasz the yard Manager is a star!), the prices are very reasonable - if you've got a catamaran there's no 50%/100% surcharge and the mosquitoes were nowhere near as bad as I'd feared/been warned.
On top of that, Sant Carles de la Rapita is a 'real' town, which will no doubt be open in the winter too; you can get just about anything you could need and it too is really friendly - another special mention: Vidal's yacht Chandlery, he seems able to fix anything. - The only item we couldn't source locally was a new forestay: 'it'll have to be sent up to Barcelona to be measured/made and as it's August/Holiday time, we can't gaurantee that the new one will arrive back by the end of the month (4 weeks away!) Fortunately, there's Jimmy Green's back in the UK who despatched exactly what we needed within four hours of our emailing an order.

Finally, in the event that you do get bored with place, flight connections to the UK and northern Europe are numerous, cheap (two people Barcelona/Liverpool return for £130 including one hold bag) and they too run all year around.

We've loved the place!

Oh, and the SCM Forum's been good too, anything we didn't know/couldn't find, we just posted on there and had an answer in 24 hours or less -thanks everyone.
