Bought a project Sadler 25 recently to be used for pottering around in my geriatric years. She’s now ready to go into the water and this is booked for next Friday. Unfortunately I’d planned to keep her on a temporary mooring in Lymington over the Winter but I’ve just been advised the river is being dredged and there’ll be no moorings availability until at least Christmas due to moving permanent mooring contract holders boats around during the dredging operation..

Does anyone know of a (cheapish) mooring, private or commercial which I could use over the winter? A Winter sublet? I’ll worry about next seasons mooring plans nearer the time! I’ve considered Kemps Quay - does anyone have experience of this Marina?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure @prv keeps a boat at Kemps

Ring the Harbour Master and ask for |Nicola. She is most accommodating and for a small boat, I am sure the waiting list is fairly nominal.

Or try Mike at Pink ferry company. He has a few buoys on the river.

Another option is Tucker and Munday, last I heard they had spaces on some of their mid river pontoons. Not as cheap as a bouy but still cheaper than a marina.

Badnam creek - might be MDL now, but worth a try.

Elephant boatyard do a flat weekly rate. They take a lot out about Oct/Nov so worth asking if that can accommodate. Although wont be cheap but will still beat any of the large marina groups.

Might be worth asking the RAF and HRSC if they have anything space. You never know!

Ah I mistook @Solent area' for Hamble. My mistake. If you are open to anywhere in the area then I think that the various yards in Portsmouth may be your go-to. The usual suspects seem to be Hardway, Wicor and if you can dry out (or sink in the mud) Fareham creek. Some good and some bad reviews. Of these, I have no personal knowledge but others may be along soon to give advice.

Hardway would be Quai Lane or Gosport Boat Yard. I'd expect Quai Lane to be cheaper, but expect to dry out (=floating in gloopy mud, so unlikely to be a problem). GBY will cost more, but does have a water taxi, though I don't know when it runs in winter.

Thanks for all the helpful advice, I’ve secured a permanent berth at Kemps (I think), still gott the paperwork to complete but it”s a pontoon berth for a reasonable price and all being well, I”ll float round there to take up residence next Saturday..

Used to, but not any more. The drying berths didn’t really suit the then-new boat and we upgraded to Shamrock Quay.

(Some sources claim that Kemp‘s has 50 all-tide berths. This may once have been true, but has been a joke for years. When we got the new boat they gave us the second-deepest berth in the place:

If you don’t mind taking the ground it’s still a decent place, especially if you‘ll be doing a lot of work on the boat.
