Winter marina berth in Portsmouth

If you're planning on much winter sailing, I'd strongly suggest that Gosport is more convenient for the sailing and this convenience may well offset the inferior accessibility by road.
Agreed about access to the Solent because for a yacht the additional 40 minutes up to Port Solent is a real bind. However C&N can be horrible during a winter NE gale depending on the berth location. A resident told me he had cleats ripped out on two occasions but then he was new to sailing and owned a budget AWB so who knows what daft mooring system he used.

Had a look at Royal Clarence on Sunday afternoon ... I thought they were supposed to be opening bars and shops and Heaven knows what else in there .... couldn't see any sign of anything.
They have been planning such things for 7 years but the waterside building boom in Gosport ran out of steam years before the credit crunch hit.

There is a bar/eating place in a strange looking building in the center of car park.

No nothing happend about the bars and shops lots on the cards though before the credit crunch happenend and they stopped building houses cause they couldnt sell them :) It's full of DSS housing and dare i say it gosport riff raff now:D security is rubbish especially in the CP where all the shoppers park for free at the weekends.

Pump house does rather nice tapas thought :)

Is Royal Clarence the one with the HUGE blue and white yacht/ship?
Complete with helicopter on the back deck as seen last weekend, yes.

The one no one has mentioned yet is Gosport Boatyard. They have a shedful of moorings dotted all over the place so might be worth having a chat with them. Think they may own the pile moorings on the inside of Gosport Marina in front of Rope Quay. Ah, just seen the bit about the fan heater.

Pete
