Winter marina berth in Portsmouth

If you are looking for storage ashore Trafalgar Wharf seem very keen http://www.trafalgarwharf.com
Looking for afloat really.

Famous last words etc. but nothing seems to need doing below the waterline. I changed the stern gland and cutless bearing at the start of this year. I also stripped the hull and applied 3 coats of micron AF at huge cost and hull seems to be as clean as a whistle.

I would have thought that in the current climate RC would be able to offer some kind of a deal for 6 months. I've heard that a number of marina operators are announcing a price freeze for 2010/11. For example I understand that Premier are offering 2 year deals to their berth holders at 2009 rates. A bit like the early 90's when marinas were falling over themselves to entice customers.

Agreed about Royal Clarence, it is the best option in the area for adhoc stays of 1 to 3 months but the annual tariff does not make sense in view of the compromises of the location. They might be willing to negotiate when the large commercial race fleet departs (or has it?).

The Haslar winter rate is fairly attractive for the mainland Solent and it is very sheltered.

Haslar is good, especially if you can get a berth tucked up near the Hornet end, rather than down by the lightship. I was offered a good rate last year, but didn't need it.

Haslar have just quoted £1143.14 including VAT for a Moody 31 which seems reasonable. Do they close the lightship loos in Winter? I know they close the bar.

Had a look at Royal Clarence on Sunday afternoon ... I thought they were supposed to be opening bars and shops and Heaven knows what else in there .... couldn't see any sign of anything.

I phoned around last week and have chosen Port Solent for the winter period based on price and availability ashore in the spring.

Looking a little further afield Hamble River Pontoons and Birdham are the cheapest

I was offered a deal at Gosport Marina (AKA 'Camper & Nic's) last winter at circa £5 per day for our 36ft. This was until 28 Feb when the daily rate went up considerably if you were still afloat, but remained the same if you timed your haul out for March. We've used this marina before and were quite happy with it, and the staff. We had a less satisfactory experience at Port Solent - noisy nights, lock delays and virtually inaccessible berth - which is why subsequently, we went to Gosport. If you're planning on much winter sailing, I'd strongly suggest that Gosport is more convenient for the sailing and this convenience may well offset the inferior accessibility by road.
