Hi
Were are hoping to move from almerimar to sardinia next year as we have heart lots of good stories. after some research I thought santa theresa de gallura on the north looked good and has good access with easy jet and ryan air. the price also were reasonable anbd there appears to be space. we are flying out there in october for 4 days to investigate further marinas in the north and please feel free to message me around then if i can help when doing my research,( though I guess you may have committed by then

regards

Several friends spent last winter in Cagliari on the south coast - decided on here as most other places, though cheaper, shut down once the summer season is over -
resulting in few shops, poor transport links etc. Cagliari is a major town so not so pretty but at least the supermarket was open and by all accounts its a friendly place too.

Have not wintered there but spent a few weeks in the north east and also south west. The Costa Smeralda marinas are all expensive. I stayed in Marina di Portisco in 2005. It cost 400 euro for three nights and was still considerably cheaper than either Porto Rotundo or Porto di Cervo. They are all fairly remote from Olbia and I cant imagine there is much going on in the winter months. Olbia has nothing much going for it.
In the south west we stayed in Marina Sifredi at Carloforte, where I was charged a much more reasonable 25 euro a night in October 2006. Across the channel is Porto Touristico di Portoscuso. I seem to recall it was almost twice the price but more sheltered. Its a bit hazy now but I remember one being a very pretty town full of weekenders from Rome, and the other not quite so nice, but still had more of a feel of the real Sardinia then the north. Cagliari airport is not far from either. Hope it helps.

Cagliari is OKish, bit industrial, but anywhere else they roll up the pavements in october and that´s it, dead as a dodo. OK to winter the boat, as long as you dont liveaboard permanently. Been there done that, not again. But the stainless steel fittings are cheap.

Alghero is a delightful town and has easy access to the airport where Ryanaair operate from. We stayed at Marina Aquatica 2000Euro Oct to April. Fertilia is cheaper but very quiet and a bus ride into town,

I have stayed the summer in Cagliari and found it delightful. It is a local town and very unspoilt by tourism. That should mean that it is just as livable in the winter, but have no own experience of that.

There is a wonderful family run marina called "Marina del Sol". It is the one to the east of the local yacht club as you enter the harbour. Extremely friendly staff that will help you with anything. The family owns the boatyard across the street and will give you a good price for any repairs you need. They also have their own rental car for guests to make excursions around the island. Highly recommended.

Funnily enough thats where I stayed and yes easy access, by ryanair, once a day, twice in the summer of course, but in the winter, it dies, very dead, unless of course it´s changed in the last two years.
No marine services to speak of, although, I admit I found enough suppliers and did any work myself.
I liked it there, but as I said, leave a boat and return now and again, fine, actually live aboard, I guess it depends what you want.

Try Castesardo . Very cheap . Unfortunately English not spoken but if you try a little Italian the Commune are a good set of lads. One of them is the local police chief Another up the hill has a Chandlery and can organise work . They also have a boat lift and if you like pasta all winter then the food is not bad . Watch out for the African Ladies of the Pine forests on the road to Porto Torres for rest and recreation in the sand dunes if you like that sort of thing

Castelsardo, been there 3 years, safe, very reasonable, nice people, no theft or vandalism.
Whether you can get in is another matter, seems pretty full.
As to the African 'ladies' they have been removed some time ago, at least I have not seen any and I am a regular visitor driving from Alghero through Porto Torres to Castelsardo.
Good luck where ever you decide to stay.

Agree, we 'parked' our boat there for a year (not liverboarding) The marina seems to be split up into private enterprises. We stayed with Ser-Mar with a great owner, Frederico. He will really look after you and your boat. However the swells in the marina are huge and we broke 2 really large springs over the winter period.
Stay clear of Fertila, lots of scam stories on this and other forums.
