The cheapest I could get is about £1000 for six months for my 26' IF Boat so I bought a second hand bespoke trailer for it for £2500 and it is now at home. Will pay for itself in two -three years and it's great being able to play with the boat at home...

I also didn't want to be in the trap when where ever the boat is, it is costing me money. If for any reason I don,t want to sail or cannot for a while, the boat is not costing me and it does not do it any harm as long as I run the inboard occasionally.

If only I could get the mooring fee down in price, looking at £1550 for Bosham or Itchenor... ouch! I have a motorbike and classic car to justify to my wife so have to keep costs right down.

Blimey. OK it's 9 months not 6 but even so... The 19,467.55 Euro hard standing charge includes a 30% discount! 2258 Euros for water and electricity looks a bit steep too.

400 ZAR haul out 4 days and back in for my 24 ton steel boat.

I can stay out for up to 14 days by arrangement as extra dayley cost.

400 ZAR is about 20 GBP.

Is is price in Zimbabwe dollars?

There has be 4 different zimbabwe dollars and from 2009 to 2019 the US dollar was used.

I would also have difficulty to haul out on ocean doing boat in zimbabwe as zim is landlocked.

As in my info my boat is in Richards Bay and the charge is in South African Rand which is currently about 22 Rand to the UK pound.

I had to look up Sotogrande to find where it was. I see that the tides there are up to a little over a metre, so the box moorings could be OK but perhaps needing care with the lines.

Once glance at the satellite map tells you the reason behind this price. The boatyard is tiny. It's for hauling a boat out, doing some work and then launching it. It's not a storage yard, they haven't got room for that. Which is why they quoted your friends the daily rate for 273 consecutive days, which of course does add up a bit. If you keep the boat in the water, it's a lot cheaper, because there's much more room.

This is hardly unusual, most small yards attached to bigger marinas do something like that. The one in Albufeira had very good pricing for quick haulouts (couple weeks free with winter berthing even), but if you stayed out for more than a few weeks, the prices would grow exponentially, to reflect the fact that they want you to get that boat out of the way so others can get worked on.

Tell your friends to look for a big storage yard and do a basic check of the landscape before bothering to ask yards like that for annual storage :)

Ian would had done what I would do if I was looking to get hauled out , that's email yards for miles around , he sorted now with a yard that's not taken the piss .
It seen they charge a surcharge if you don't use them to do the work , even so it's one hell of a surcharge .
