Recent reports indicate that Australia had a very fast growing enterprising company in Victoria that were cranking up to manufacture large wind turbines on a large scale. However the various governments were procrastinating in ordering and the company got a better offer from China.
All the manufacturing equipment and people were shifted to China where they just can't get enough wind turbines. This leaves Oz trying to import turbines in a high demand market.
Just another case of governments with no imagination. We could usefully triple our wind farms but this is not likely to happen soon.
