I've always used Windguru ( www.windguru.cz ) and Passageweather ( www.passageweather.com ) for forecasting.
But last autumn, a yachtie friend showed me "Windy"

I've started looking at it and I really like it.
For me, a forecast needs to have wind, wave information, clouds and rain forecasts.
Most systems derive their forecasts from the GFS model because it is free.
Windguru and Passage weather major on the GFS model but have others - WRF model is always worth a look.
Windy has the GFS model and others - ECMWF for example.

When searching for Windy, there seem to be a number of forecasts with similar names.
So, for the computer, I am using this address:-
https://www.windy.com
and for the Android this app:-
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.windyty.android&hl=en

I apologise if this has been discussed on here before but I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to change.
I like to know my forecast systems and how accurate that they usually are.

I think I will now add Windy to my list.

Mike, have you tried the Windfinder app?

Yea - most of the yachties at SC use Windfinder.
Never really used it myself.
But the more I use Windy, the more I like it.

They have an API interface and the ability to embed into your own web page.
When we first started www.scmchat.com I set up a page of links to Windguru
These links have worked over the years but I should be able to create a much slicker weather forecast page using Windy.
So, thats what I'm doing at the moment.
The Windguru one relied on my personal subscription so a free connection to Windy would be a more elegant solution for the CHAT forum.

thanks!

have tried a series of apps, but this one looks way better than anything I've tried over the years.
Installed it and removed the crappy ones :D

Thanks Hurricane, it looks good. I’ve always used XCWeather and it’s as often wrong as it’s right. One thing they all did agree on was that today would be dead calm. So we went for a little cruise, first in what seems ages. We anchored at the Fort de Brégançon had lunch then went ashore to walk the dog on the beach. Lovely day out?

Useful link thanks
Interesting to see the wind pouring down through the Gulf of Leon. The source of some of our bumpy days (in Empuriabrava)
Should be useful next year

You can see a similar display in Windguru by clicking on the individual wind strengths and then selecting full screen.
But this Windy weather forecast system is streets ahead in functionality, ease of use and beautiful fast displays.
The Android app is great as well.

I have just finished embedding a version of Windy into our www.scmchat.com Sant Carles Marina Forum.
There aren't as many features in the embedded or API applications but Windy is way better than we had before on our forum.

What an excellent site I like the comparison between the models too and currently assessing each for accuracy and will then choose that as my default forecast.

Great stuff

Did you see that you can select the little camera and see all the webcams in the area of your choice.
Some have live feeds - some are recordings of the last 24 hours etc...

Another dead calm day today! After the month from hell, I’m beginning to think there might be some boating this winter. Had a couple of hours on the water this afternoon just burning diesel (at six knots:))

Webcam?
Can’t see anywhere to select it on my iPhone

Its there on the Android app.
So, it should be on the iPhone as well.

Select Wind (or whatever you have selected at the moment - Waves etc).
Then scroll down - Under "Display on map" you should see "Webcams"

Then the webcams for a particular area will display on the map - little camera icons on the map that you can click.
Lots around Roses area.
