I am looking at buying a used Haslar(owner Jester) windvane. Would like any information on the unit. How well it works, are thier spares available, will be mounting on a Albin Ballad. Thanks

The Haslar Servo Pendulum gear has a good reputation and is certainly upto the job on the Ballad having been extensively used on many boats of that size and vintage. You are unlikely to get off the shelf spares for it due to the age but you don't get shops out at sea! Try investigating the Allbin Ballad association for any more information on other owners who may have fitted one. I wish I could find one to buy at a sensible price for my boat!!

I am not familiar with the hull-form of an Albin Ballad but I bought the other 'Jester' Haslar gear from Mike Richey about 12 years ago (two were donated when the new Jester was commissioned). At the time I had a Contessa 26. Being similar to a Folkboat like Jester, it worked brilliantly and I to be honest, I often think it did better for my Contessa than my Aries does for the Rival 34 I have now.

Haslar are lightly built but for a smaller, well balanced boat, they are superb. Wind Vane is bigger than most modern vanes. Any gear you buy will take a little getting to know. Buy it!

Have a Halcyon 27 fitted with Hasler, fitted around 1990 I gather from previous owner that it was removed from a Folkboat. Must work as it's done 2 trans-Atlantics.

Looking for any gen on it's operation, as none came with boat, and previous owners are back in the West Indies.
