This question is for people who have used windvane a lot. What is the most common break down or wear and tear problem you hear about. How ofen does it happend. What has happend to you??
I hope to get some answers, so I can plan for it, when making my own windvane.

Are you planning to make a servo pendulum or an auxilliary rudder. On the latter the bit that seems to wear is the inner radius of the rudder where the spigot goes in. Nothing else seems to wear apart from UV degradation of the wind vane itself.

I have a Windpilot that is the make. It is made in Germany and has no parts that wear that I am aware of. It has an auxilary rudder and the loads are quite low. The aux rudder needs painting and the windvane also need a lick of paint now and again. Look here www.windpilot.com
