Hi all thank you in advance

I'm in the process of planning a trip to the salty stuff and would appreciate any advice. I have as much as is possible the mechanicals in hand engines serviced and lots of spare fuel filters, impellers associated tools etc also a crash course in changing them etc so sort of happy on that front.

Current paper charts and upto date SD card for chart plotter and route part way planned.

My thoughts are to leave Teddington at high tide and head down to Galleons Reach to over night before catching the next ebb tide down to Ramsgate via Gore/South Channel or possibly Queens Channel arriving hopefully around North Foreland slack waterish.

The boat is a Fairline Turbo 36 running twin TAMD's 40bs so its not going to be a fast trip but that suits me.

Any thoughts or advice would be welcome

Any advice would be greatly appricated

Your plan to leave teddington on the high tide is spot on, it should take around three hours to get to galleons reach. Just did this last week, thru London is a bit lumpy with all the trip boats etc. Second leg should be ok too leaving on high tide with a full six hours you should round north foreland on the slack although it's always lumpy there. If luck is with you a soft west wind would be great so you can speed along, sunny would also be good. Bon Voyage!

If it was me ,would be thinking of
Sea Reach No1
Princes No 7
Princes Outer
East Margate.
and then inside the Elbow to Broadstairs Knoll
This is common route used by Mobos.
On a nice day the 4 Fathom channel is an interesting route BUT not in inclement weather, mostly shallow and uncomfortable seas do build in wind against tide.
Under adverse conditions seas are mainly steep and short until you get to North Foreland where they change to proper long swells.
Always best to have a diversion plan,if anything goes wrong along North Kent coast ,depending on your position, if you only need shelter then the Swale is good refuge and if you get the tide right you can nip round the back of the island to Queenborough and a secure mooring with shore access.
Other than that its struggle on to Ramsgate. :)
Personally would give Gallions a miss and go to Queenbourgh for an overnighter, easy peasy comfortable hop from Teddington.
Always useful to use a port for the first time under benign conditions in daylight, so when push does come to shove on any future trip you can go in confident and one less thing to worry about.
You must visit the Royal Temple, the classic old time boat club and the display of silverware is impressive.
Good grub too.
Decent selection of resturants adjacent to club entrance, everything else in the town is debatable with one or two exceptions.

Two options at Queenborough, dependant of your boat hook skills, either pick a visitor mooring bouy or if free go alongside the concrete lighter.
£20.00 an night and free trot boat, although what exactl delights the town offers is beyond me,, :)

If it rains in Ramsgate there is a bus, remember them, which follows a circular route round that bit of the coast ending up in Margate and the Tate Gallery, also nearbye is Broadstairs via a brisk and bracing walk along the cliff top.
