That is an example of corrosion on our pilot house window frames and it is effecting most of them. The boat (and therefore the frames) are seventeen years old. The windows have just started leaking and I am replacing all twelve windows at considerable cost. I'm really keen not to have to do this again! It's difficult to believe that just seawater can cause this issue; maybe it is aggressive boat cleaning chemicals? I haven't used products like Truckwash which is a favoured by some boat owners. Has anyone got any idea what might be a likely cause?

TIA

Rob

ps - the picture is presented in the wrong plane - where the corrosion is seen is actually in the horizontal plane so water can lay where the corrosion is visible

Looks like salt water corrosion to me. Possibly the anodizing was damaged slightly when fitting the gaskets.

My thought was that it was pre-anodised channel section on which the anodising has been scraped off when forming the frame, but I fully agree that it now seems to be missing. There is no effective way to replace the anodising easily, although there are DIY methods, as shown in PBO recently. Alternatively I suggest you have a look at Duralac Green, link in the current Duralac thread, which describes good adhesion and anti-corrosion properties for the product.
