I am currently researching vertical windlass products and would appreciate some pointers in terms of what to consider as essential "must have" and optional "nice to have" features. I have 50m of 8mm chain and 50m of 16mm octoplait with a 10kg Rocna and intend to be anchoring in UK coastal waters in depths upto about 20m?

Will the 8mm chain gypsy be able to haul in the 16mm rope or will you require a capstan on top. Also some gypsy's aren't able to handle octoplait. My windlass takes 8mm chain and the maximum rope size is 14mm. It's a basic setup with deck mounted push buttons but I could wire in a control at the helm or even a remote control unit.
Apart from that, measure and mark many times before cutting.
