Hello,

I'm looking for winter storage options for a Jaguar 25 around Windermere. The boat is currently on a swing mooring and storage at the lake wardens office is already full.

I would like to be able to do some work to the boat over the winter so that's one consideration. If anyone has had any experience of anywhere locally that would be great.

P.s I've tried Maiden and the quote was ridiculous. Looking for something cheap :)

Many thanks,
Mat

Yeah. Big problem around here. There are a few farmers who have space, but aren't interested in the hassle. I know someone with a brokerage who was using a derelict plant nursery, but the Planning Authority (who just happen to be the LDNPA) stopped that.
Usually the objection by landowners is that they don't want to give access to people. The actual storage isn't the issue.
There is a local chancer with a load of rubbish boats for sale who parks them in lay-bys.

I've given them a call - They are going to check to see if they have space.

Many thanks for the heads up.

Fell foot apparently have a waiting list, i joined in the summer and am still waiting for news on a space, they said October ??

They said they charge £8.75 per ft plus a retrieval fee

You've just missed out on a landing just up the road.

You could try Whitecross Bay Caravan Park. We kept our boat there on a swinging mooring for a few seasons, but couldn't bring it ashore. IF yours will go on a trailer, they might let you store it - not sure about working on it though.

Do you have a trailer? You will need one for Fellfoot unless I'm much mistaken, definitely need one for the Wardens if you get a space.

Aquatics do a liftout and store on the prom between the jetties and the shops but it was about £700 plus lifts IIRC for a 26' Centaur 3 years ago.

All the boats at the Lowwood have to come out but I don’t know the arrangements or prices there.

Hello,

Thanks for the all the information so far.

aquaplane - I'm just trying to sort that out now and not really having much luck. Does anyone have one i could possibly hire?

Wardens is booked up. I might get a space a Fell Foot and yes you still need a trailer.

I was going to try and stay in this year on the mooring at Thompson Holme, but the saildrive is showing signs of water in the oil

There is a chap who does boat transport with a trailer who may be worth talking to. He has been known to dunk his trailer, he took my old Jag 25 away to Southhampton, he may sell you a day of his time to sort your leg out but I don't know.
He has an advert on the Warden's notice board, or he had 2 weeks ago.

I found it worth asking wardens again, as people cancel. Last winter people were lifting out well into the winter. Once you have used their storage you get first refusal next year.

Almost impossible to lift out without a trailer, unless you pay for cranage and a truck.

If your mooring is exposed could you compromise with a temporary move to a less exposed mooring, like the holiday ones near Ferry Nab?

I had no problem overwintering for 2 years on an exposed mooring near Maiden Marine. In the third winter the boat broke free in the big winds and ended up in a millionaire's garden along with 4 others. No damage to the boat but he claimed £2500 off our insurance for damage to his lawn and jetty. Insurance was very reluctant to pay seeing it as an act of god so we were much harrassed by landowner's solicitors.

I now have a less exposed mooring behind Belle Isle, and converted a trailer.

I don't think it's essential to get the boat out of the water if the boat's OK and the mooring is secure. For example last winter on land I had frost damage to seacocks and the engine as a result of leaving a bit of water in the pipes. I don't think that would have happened on the water.

Many thanks David for your post. My mooring is also round the island, in front of Thomson holme to be exact and we seem to have a fair degree of shelter.

Still have a few ideas to explore, I'm mainly coming out to check the sail drive over.
