Does anyone do it/done it?

I was wondering...
1. How long is each race?
2. How much is it? Looking at the notice of race, says the fee is £85, I assume this covers all the races, not £85 per race?

Lastly, is there a summer series?

On average (given all the variables that characterise sailing on Windermere!), the races last a couple of hours or so.

The fee is per season, but on top of that you need to factor in mooring / launching costs and even car parking.

The winter series is run by the Windermere Cruising Association, but in the summer they are predominantly a social sailing club with only a very laid back racing program. The summer racing is organised primarily by the RWYC, who may(?) cater for cruisers next summer, plus the South Windermere (dinghies) and some cruiser/keelboat racing at the Lake District Boat Club.

If you can find someone who has his boat off the water in the winter see if you can use his mooring. Not strictly proper but you can work around the rules.

I've never been tempted. Whilst I kept my boat on all year, the Frostbite races seems either becalmed or bloody cold and windy!

Did a couple of winter series yonks ago crewing on a J24 - Great fun when windy with fantastic wild water & scenery, especially with snow coming down & settling. Need to a) maintain motivation & remove thoughts of log fires, hot chocolate etc. and b) invest in good thermals & gloves.
Recall races lasted 2 hours or so back then plus the usual mucking about pre start so quite a long time on the water to 'enjoy', getting back ashore at dusk.

Ah. That's OK then. I thought she must have sunk when I saw the space.

(you didn't pay parking at Ferry Nab, did you? You could have used my drive until you needed to slip.)

No - didn't pay but thanks for the offer - nearly came round for a pair of wire cutters to release the dinghy but the padlock unlocked at the final go.
Used the power washer at the slip - fabulous, puts my Stihl one to shame!
If the bed breaks I'll see you in the spring
Winter well.

They just started a race about 10.30. The start was just offshore of here. Not at lot of wind (10 knots) and seems to be about 20 boats (could be more as the sportsboats shot off and are behind a promontory now.)
