When I was a kid, we used to go to Windermere. We took picnics, drove round the lake and then just parked the car between the trees some place, every one was spread out round the lake. When I was abot 18, we took an old speed boat on the back of a truck. Backed it onto the front at Ambleside and just chucked it in. Not sure whether this was legal, but /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Then next time we went, they had tipped piles of rubble where we used to park free and spread out, we now were herded to a massive out of town pay and display type place in Bowness. Then more and more gistapo types took over the lake and the launching places. Charging fortunes and reintroducing the rack for anyone who had misread the rules, or parked on a pontoon for more than a nano second. So we pissed off to the freedom of the sea and never looked back.
Mind, that was years ago. So they have carried on in there wicked ways, ostrosized everyone else and gone bankrupt themselves in the process. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The first sign of this, to me, was the installation under Shepherds of a Blackpool type amusement arcade complete with flashing lights and all the attendant noise/mess.

Perhaps, just perhaps, there might be an "arcade" type "waterski" or "jetski" game, to make up for the lack of the real thing.

What's even more worrying is that Shepherds are moving their operation to their Marina site in the New Year and the building they are in at the moment has been sold (or leased?).
Remains to be seen who or what is going to be there.
