I have finally got around to fitting the Rutland 913. I can get the pole vertical, inside the gantry but have had to fit a 3rd section in order for the turbine blades to clear the top of the gantry. The pole is attached loosely at 3 points to the gantry (temporarily for now).

Exam question is - do I still need to support the post with guy ropes?

My 913 is on a near 4m pole with two horizontal stuts at the top just below the blades fitted at 90 degrees. The pole has a fore/aft brace about half-way down. I get no harmonics and the setup has been fitted one season -so far so good.

When I mounted my 913 I found that using non rigid guys was not ideal. Once you get any tension into them they very easily pull over the support. It would be fine if you could get another guy opposite but often this isnt practicable. I ended up using rigid struts.

My installation hums at fairly low wind speeds. Marlec informed me that this is often the case. They said that rubber mounting pads could reduce the noise. This is perhaps something that you could think about at this stage rether than when the installation is completed.

The Rutland 913 on my boat is on a substantial pole which is supported by two rigid poles (about 8mm or so). The significant thing (I think) is that each has a rubber pad (in two parts) at top and bottom. I'd go for something like this at the installation stage rather than have the hassle of first living with vibration/noise and then having to fix it.
