Hi,

I'm having a little bit of a problem taking the self tailer off my winch. This is the first time i've attempted servicing the winches, but I've been told the self tailer should just pop off.

We've been hitting it with a hammer for about 15 minutes and it doesnt seem to budge, and there's no other visible screws or other bits to release.

It' a Gibb 16STA single speed winch, is there something other than belting it with a hammer and spraying it with wd40?

I've made a lovely vid of Oliver from Troskala giving it a good wack to illustrate the problem

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tim

The stripper arm unscrews; it's a RH thread, so turn it anticlockwise to unscrew it. Best to use a rubber-faced mallet to avoid damage.

PVB thanks so much, we were inadvertently tightening it and loosening it by hitting it from side to side, as we thought it was just stuck and would pop out.

Hitting it anti clockwise with a mallet did the trick.

Job done, time for a cup of tea :D

Thanks once again.

I did a how to illustrated article on my Gibb ST25 some years ago you may find it if you search. The transformation was immense and very satisfying. I took them off Anemone and did them at home over winter. It's not possible to do a full service with them in situ.
