I am looking to rechrome a couple of Lewmar winches over the winter.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a supplier on the South Coast (Portsmouth/Southampton)?

In addition, is it cost effective to rechrome smaller items such as mushroom vents?

Thanks Nigel.

I don't know the South Coast but a friend had a pair of winches done locally. He is happy with the result, but they ground off the textured surface in the process, so I would check to ensure that this wouldn't happen if it were mine.

Another recommendation for J and A Finishing Services in Fareham. They did a couple of Lewmar 44 winch drums for me four years ago.

In order to clean up what you give then, they will de-chrome them first using a similar electrolysis process to when they coat them but in reverse.

They did a three stage coating process on mine. Copper, nickel and then chrome I believe.

Whatever they did, it worked...

Tony Cobden, based in Susex. Former Lewmar enginer and recommended to me by Lewmar tech support when I wanted some spares for my 35-year-old 40ST. As he wrote in his email
I worked for Lewmar for about 20 years, many of the years heading up the Lewmar winch engineering team.
I haven't had mine re-chromed, but he does full or partial refurbishment of Lewmar winches.
