Winch query - Gibb winches

My Gibb 2 speed auto ratchet 16RA spinnaker winch lifts off the secure base (in the vertical axis) even with the cap and retaining circclip in place.
The spindle is lifting off together with the drum itself, just leaving an upright vertical cylindrical inner core and the bearings which wrap around it.
The winch actually seems to functions fine otherwise (!) and when stripping down I can’t see an obvious reason but expect some part is worn down/out. If anyone has access to exploded drawing of these winches or has first hand knowledge that would be really helpful thanks.

I had a look at one of my 28RA winches today - the central drive shaft goes all the way down into the base of the winch. There is a ratchet assembly and the reduction gear drive down there but I'm sorry - I can't see how the drive shaft is retained. I guess you will have to remove the winch from it's plinth to find out and make the repair anyway. Good to know somebody else has still got Gibb winches in service!
