I have a 2.9m inflatable with a Mariner 8hp, it will plane with just me in it but when a 2nd person gets in it won't quite plane. We only use it in calm/river conditions. If I deflated the inflatable keel partially or fully this would make it more flat bottomed and therefore easier to plane 2 up! Anyone tried this before?

Its unlikely to work cos the floor will be a bit 'floppy'. This will cause even more drag.

You could try fitting (or making) something like this . My Honda had built in ones and allowed the boat to plane with huge amounts of weight in it.

I am surprised your inflatable wont plane two up with an 8 hp .ave you blown tubes up rock hard ?The inflatable floor should be hard as you can get it as well .I have used hydrofoils on an out board before ,they were far less elaborate than the pictures above .They are called dolephins i think and run at about £25.00.These bolt to the cavitation plate on your outboard and allow you to get on plane quicker and then stay there with lower revs/power .They were very effective .The overriding factor in to plane or not to plane is weight and weight distribution .If you are two 16 stone blokes you are not going to get her up .If your average then shuffling your weight around in the tender may also help you get up .

I looked at outboard hydrofoils but they may get in the way when i transport the engine.
I weigh 14 stone, the 2nd person weighs 11 stone

My 2.7 airdeck planes at 14.5 knots with swmbo (9st ) and me (12st) with a 6 hp 4 stroke. I would get the engine checked over cos it should fly 2 up
