I was driving along in Cambridge today and came across these little beasts happily delivering peoples shopping. You got to wonder if this will ever come to a marina either by water or indeed ground. I think we can rule out by air at the moment. These however are up and running

They have them in Milton Keynes and Northampton. You often see them trundling along pavements. I love the fact that if they get stuck, they can evidently ask for help from passers by!
There was a bit on TV a few weeks back about one being stuck, asking for help and then saying thankyou once up a snowy kerb.

There was another video of someone abusing one.
"Robot Rights?"

I can imagine young men of ill-repute causing chaos for these vulnerable electronic individuals.

What about muggers? They must be an excellent target.
As well as that youths could just flip them on their backs like turtles for a laugh
I would have done that when I was young. Much better fun than knock up ginger
Little thing with its siren going & its wheel spinning round calling for help:oops:
Put it on youtube. Could go viral first time round ?
Rub a female dog against it & see the reaction of randy male dogs when it goes past
great laugh  ?

If this saves a car journey isn't that a good thing?
No not really. If the shops too far away to walk to then surely a robot isn't going to deliver that far is it? It didn't look big enough to carry a whole weeks shop. And let's be honest, a few more people could do with a walk to the local convenience store for their milk!

I think they have a good range but guess the limitation is a footpath route.
It could be very useful for people who can't get out of the house too easily , like disabled people for example.

Well yeah I suppose for the afflicted it'll help. But don't we already have delivery services??
"Getir" being the grab bag for groceries deliveries. This is just another way of maximising profits and doing humans out of work . For me, it's wrong.

I expect that you would still be ploughing fields with horses
Do not forget that there is a national labour shortage. The people who would do this sort of thing, are the people who take the stuff TOO the van. Not DRIVE the van.
If you want human labour, then you would be unable to counter any argument against the migration of young economic migrants with the attendant problems. Perhaps you do not wish to & we cannot enter that debate on this forum, for obvious reasons. However, it has to be said that cheap labour supply is the issue. No one is going to pay high wages for the job either. Unless you want to pay more for your goods & that leads to spiralling inflation.
For me it solves a problem. Albeit the thin end of the wedge. But we do need to apply mechanisation to things in this country to improve output. Personally I think the knowledge would be better directed elsewhere
You may not be aware of the WEFs idea of limiting our travel zones to 15 minutes. That has already begun in some areas of the world inc the EU & moving goods by robot is a start to keep us in our box.

Is the idea of 15 minute cities about designing and planning places that have everything needed day to day within a 15 minute walk to help reduce car journeys rather than restricting travel.
