Will anyone be there to meet Steve?

Poor lad is still 20 miles of the finish line and going nowhere but after all this frustration will any of the other competitors be there to meet him? It doesn't look like it but I hope I'm wrong. What a soul destroying end to a fantastic achievement.

Well, that's all the Brits home safe and sound. Great performance all round.

Sad that there was only media, officials and family there to greet him.

Steve White finished the Vendee Globe in 8th place, last of the Brits taking part but with an old boat and little sponsorship.

It is a fantastic achievement and he should be justly proud in beating some of the also rans to the finish line. Let's hope that it does his sailing career a great deal of good.

And thousands of people are out ot greet Steve White, incredible. Both sides of the canal are teeming with people and White looks almost reluctant, not quite knowing where to look but he is going to love it just the same, he has the flares lit on the foredeck and is accepting the applause and cheers with a huge smile and waving as much as he can. A perfect end to his race. He had two packets of custard creams this morning.

And a big banner saying 'Thanks Steve, you have made us dream' on the left bank as he comes in. And Cali, Arnaud Boissieres is in a RIB alongside adding his best wishes.

Yep, at least that's something, particularly Cali. Very supportive but doesn't make up for the total lack of interest this side of the channel.
