Bugger :(:(

We are very sorry to announce that this service is no longer operational.

Wiley Nautical have decided that they will no longer be offering the Wiley Nautical Almanac and will instead be focussing their future business strategy on the Wiley Nautical book publishing programme. If you wish to take a look at their products follow this link www.wileynautical.com

There is some good news though, Zoboa will be introducing a new software almanac service for yachtsmen in the near future. For more information please follow this link www.zoboa.com

Our apologies for the inconvenience and we hope you enjoyed the experience of using this application.

Happy sailing,
The Wiley Nautical/Zoboa Almanac team

Hmm. I'm guessing that the Zoboa product will be paid-for rather than free :).

We'll see.

In a way, I hope it will be paid for. The idea of launching products on the back of advertising hasn't generally worked very well anywhere (google excepted) - especially where there is a cost (UKHO data fees) to be found.

I found the Wiley Almanac to be incredibly useful for "what if" type cruise planning. Having the port & tidal height/stream data all close together was/is very useful. Not a substitute for a paper almanac but great for desktop planning. There's a tendancy to think that any on-line information should be free (and perhaps it should) but I would pay a reasonable fee of around £20 per year in addition to the paper almanac costs for the convenience. Advertising revenues could supplement subscription fees.

Perhaps YBW should pipe their digital editions through the same sort of framework. If the e-magazine had the almananc data too that would be useful. That way, the alamanac part of the proposition wouldn't have to stand alone in making a business case. Or maybe Zoboa should license YBW digital issues and deliver them through the almanac...

I don't disagree with any of this. The Almanac has all the qualities that make for a successful online paid-for product and I'm amazed that Wiley offered it as a freebie.

I can understand why its happened, however I am a bit **ssed off that after downloading the 'update' it now wont let me at least look at whats already installed on the PC !
