Any idea how good wifi is (if at all) in St Peter Port and St Helier?

dunno about st helier, but st peter port was unusable - but beaucette worked very well which may give you another option...

St Helier works quite well I found, reliable but not particularly fast

I was in SPP a couple of weeks ago. There is plenty of free WiFi around the place but as already mentioned much is of poor quality and even standing by the aerial I could not get enough bandwidth to make an internet call. Also in SPP you have to re-authenticate every hour to continue using the service.

Wifi in St Peter Port is excellent, I'm using it now, Cherburg however is rubbish.
