Been using netbook on board for several years with a contract dongle - unlimited 4G. SWMBO bought an android tablet yesterday but when using the sim card it costs 1 euro per hour:(

Found this on-line - http://filecluster.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Turn-your-computer-into-a-WiFi-router

Downloaded and installed in about 5 minutes and worked first time. Now connected via the netbook which is on most of the day anyway, using contract dongle.

I use a Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi model R205, but latest is I believe an R206.
After asking for unlock code - no issues at all, I can use a local 'data only' sim card, switch it on and leave it on charge for as long as I am onboard. The unit allows up to 6 units to run at any time.
I am based Crete and find the reception exceptional for 99% of the time and simply rapid for even Skype video.

Best gadget I have bought for years!!

My only reservation is the invasion of technology when sailing - but it does have on OFF button.

Was in Voda this morning, they want 99.99 euro for 4G router, that's why I looked for alternatives.

Good spot (see what I did there?), a bit like Personal Hotspot on an iPhone I guess, but didn't know you could do it on Windows.

I've already explained how to do this, no extra software required. I have found such software to be flakey, and do you trust the source?

See the links below, the second is an update on the discussion that followed.

I looked at the other methods but the advantage of this is that it literally took minutes to download and install without having to mess around with command line entries - suitable for those of us who aren't very technically minded or, just lazy.
