Why is it that after taking a week of work for 3 days it rains, they forecast 2 more of the same so we come home from the boat (not my decision lol) I then sit and watch 2 days of ok weather and do domestic horrors and so look forward to the weekend on the boat Then I wake this morning to glorious weather.

Then get told No 2 son has a sleep over ( o yes) but we can't drop him off until 11 am, No 2 son wants to go training for his free running so wont come and is likely to have a party at home if we stay on the boat tonight. So my two days of joy are now half a day, tomorrow we have to pick him up again at 11 am so no chance of being able to wake up tomorrow on my boat with the glorious Windsor Castle as a backdrop.

Then again i guess compared to the poor souls who hired a boat for the half term and had three days of red boards and continual rain at least I know the old girl will be there next weekend /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif - the boat that is

You made the right decision to leave on the Sunday, we had to battle with overnight gales to stay put on Sunday night and then made a hasty retreat as the rain continued on Monday. The flood chased us all the way back to Caversham with red boards appearing as we left each lock. The weir at Whitchurch was the most menacing I have seen it, lots of power needed to get round to the lock. Water level at Sonning bridge was up by at least a foot.
Also stuck at thome this weekend but hoping for a long one next week.

We had a fun time Sunday night at the islands near Shiplake with the stern mooring pin being pulled out twice in the early hours of the morning, a combination of soft ground, the rising river level and a strong wind pushing us away from the bank.

Made an early retreat back to Caversham on Monday, planning to stop at Tesco to get some extra supplies, but as usual all moorings were taken except for one right at the front or the pontoon. We needed to put in a pin in the bank to hold the bow, but there was no way it was going to stay there.

This weekend we have family matters at home and get glorious sunshine. Still, I did get down to the boat for a hour with my brother-in-law to take it round to the pump out and we had a quick cruise down to Sonnng and back while we there. The temptation to continue through the lock and forget about the 10 people at home waiting for us was almost to much to resist.

Yep, same thing at Fawley Meadow, was up four times in the night banging the pins in again. In the end had five pins and the anchor out and it still wouldnt stay put.

Got home in record time Monday and then booked a last minute flight to Barcelona for rest of the week.

Weather like this make the amount we pay feel worthwhile!!
