Why won't the leave me space to anchor

Anyone play the bagpipes?

Yes, I was ok as a teenager, doesn't work unless you are really bad. But you often are offered drinks.

I used to keep a special tape to play as boats would come into the anchorage.
"The Ace Of Spades" Moterhead used to work well when I was young. Now I get another fat old guy with a metalica shirt close by giving me a thumbs up and yelling "cool tunes dude"

The Spanish have a habit of putting fenders out when they anchor.... Do they know something I don't?

I noticed a similar trait on Spanish beaches. Big beach just us on it, next family comes about 10yds from us and so on.

Its just not the British way!
1st lot at one end, 2nd at t'other, 3rd in the middle etc.

On Thusrday night the two Greek boats that were anchored too close to us started to have a conversation, loudly, over the top of us. A bit of wind was forecast for overnight so we moved to a clearer patch of the bay. When we got up the next day both Greek boats were in the process of anchoring on top of us so we moved back to our original position, we're now waiting for them to come back!
