I've seen it before - there are just too many things wrong in the actions of the "crew" both before any after they got tossed out.

The twist grip surely should have returned it to idle when he let go. No cord and poor maintenance......scary!!!

On my tiller-steering outboards (2) the throttle grip friction can be adjusted, so no, it wouldn't necessarily return to idle.

You got me thinking now. Been years since I used one but thought it did spring return just like a motorbike. Would seem stupid for manufacturers not to make it like this especially as a few of them make motorbikes and can use the same parts surely!!

Can only speak for my tender outboard which is a 5hp Tohatsu but the throttle doesn't spring closed on that. As others have said, a friction screw and thats your lot.

can't see video is it an RNLI lifeguard? The RNLI don't use kill cords. They set the throttles to spring to idle when released.
