Why the pink set?

Why do yachties wear pink? I mean those baggy trousers the colour of milky ketchup which fade to a fashionable watery pink. Especially oft-seen(or am I biased?) in Cowes, Beaulieu and Lymington. Such togs are worn in no other activity nor(so far as I know) in no other country. So why? Whence the tradition? If I'm not in my pink slacks am I work talking to?

Personaly I love pale pink trousers /forums/images/icons/blush.gif and blue, and yellow, and cream [ b*** to keep clean if down the engine room] /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

All my light coloured trousers, socks and t-shirts are pink. I tried to be helpful whilst the missus was away, nobody told me not to mix different colours in the wash, especialy red jumpers. I have been banned from being helpful now.

You must have missed the last Clyde Corinthian Yacht Club muster. De rigeur to have pink pants - and a bright red v-neck embroidered jersey - and a white sailors cap.

Oh- best to have a yard maintained wooden boat, preferably something a little over 20 tons. Yup they measure by weight not length.

P.S.

To revert to the thread topic and demolish the stereotype, I am moored on the Beaulieu River but do not own a pair of pink trousers. I normally go boating in a very distinguished pair of antifoul-stained jeans, though I have a gold lame thong which I save for special occasions. I suspect things may be different in the Marina at Buckler's Hard - but if I could afford to moor there, I'd be able to run to the cost of a second pair of trousers.

I have to confess that my old man, who is a die hard yottie of many years' standing, always wore pukka pink trousers, though they, too, were adorned with antifoul and oilstains rampant. He tended to manage without the peaked cap and reefer jacket..............

Of course you havent. Up there, they wear skirts. And even have hairy handbags hanging round their nether regions.
