Can't be much of a difference in manufacturing costs and materials, can there?

Cost-plus pricing is a mugs game. Beat the drum, hype it up and ask what the traffic will bear.

Remember that when comparing anchor tests, it's not the highest figure that counts, it's the lowest. No use having an anchor that will hold 10 tons sometimes, you're better off with one that holds 5 tons every time.

But if spending 3 times as much gives you more confidence that has to be worth something.

Nope. But lots of sailors - or, to use the technical term, "mugs" - automatically assume that expensive is good. The manufacturers would be daft to ignore this.

Given the size of the market compared with really large volume consumer goods, perhaps the manufacturers need the mugs to stay in business????

The Spade includes lead in the tip and apparently development costs were high.

And somebody has to pay for the designer, Allain's ( ex forumite IIRC) cruising lifestyle!

I would have liked a spade but they are seriously expensive here in the USA so I went to another Delta but one size up from the size of Spade or Rocna generally recommended for our boat , having had very good results with the Delta that we used for ten years on our last boat in the UK and also locals around here mostly favour the Delta for the ICW and Bahamas,
